Don Naylor + Associates Ltd. offers clients a comprehensive range of Landscape Architectural design and planning services from research and conceptual development, to complete project management and contract administration. The following summarizes the relevant services and areas of expertise of the Firm, and includes specifically related project experience.

MASTER PLANNING:
We provide Master Planning for Municipalities, public agencies and the private sector for subjects including: Community, and Neighbourhood recreational park facilities, sub-division development design with an emphasis on environmental protection and resort and golf course development. Completed projects include the South Unionville Community in Markham, Mackenzie Glen Valley Master Plan in the City of Vaughan, and the Links at Thunder Beach in Tiny Township.

SPORTS AND RECREATION FACILITY PLANNING AND DESIGN:
Projects in this category range in scope from small neighbourhood parkettes to large district sports parks. Full service design and construction are the normal responsibilities in this category. In many cases the Municipality requires older parks to be rejuvenated calling on the landscape architect to prepare conceptual solutions and involve the local community. Public participation is followed by detail design and contract administration. Parks within new housing developments on the other hand, result in the need for new, and varied public facilities based on municipal service standards and/or cultural interests of growing communities. Completed facilities include: Georgetown South Sports Park, and the Mackenzie Glen Community Park in Maple, Ontario.

URBAN DESIGN:
In this case the reference to urban design relates to the services provided in enhancing the existing urban infrastructure. Policy guidelines and design development for public open spaces: right of ways, streetscapes, plazas, pedestrian/bicycle routes, railway line integration, and dealing with urban edges adjacent valley land systems and storm water management ponds. Currently the Firm is engaged in urban design contracts with the City of Brampton and the Town of Markham, both of which are focused on improving the corporate identity of the downtown core. Other notable projects include the McNaughton Berm Streetscape Development which is part of the Maple Neighbourhood Improvement Program for the City of Vaughan.

ENVIRONMENTAL LAND USE PLANNING:
Typically these engagements involve the inventory, analysis and formulation of design guidelines both graphic and written aimed at preserving natural areas and environmentally and culturally significant resources in relation to proposed development. Following public consultation, these studies lead to detailed development design for draft plan approval. Recent projects in this category include the Simcoe Shores Development for the City of Barrie and Rupert’s Pond and Creek remediation project for the Metro Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.

NATURAL HABITAT DESIGN AND RESTORATION:
The Firm is well known for its services involving design development and approvals by Governing Agencies and construction knowledge for all valley lands, woodlots, E.S.A.’s, A.N.S.I.s and wetland sites. Designed and constructed artificial wetland habitats are included in this category. Recent projects include the Churchill Meadows Water Quality Facility in Mississauga, and the Pickering Harbour Company Constructed Wetland which is currently under construction. The Firm has been included in the design and construction of over 30 storm water management facilities across southern Ontario.

VEGETATION, TERRAIN, AND VISUAL ASSESSMENT STUDIES:
Normally undertaken in the earliest stage of the development process, these studies establish the ground rules for Developers and Municipalities interested in producing superior urban design guidelines to augment future development policies. Recently, the Firm represented clients in Milton providing a visual assessment report for a new development proposal adjacent the Niagara Escarpment.

MUNICIPAL STANDARDS MANUALS:
The Firm completed the Parks and Open Space Design Standards Manual for the Town of Markham, Community Services Commission in 2002.
