The new owners of the Willow Farm in Aurora Ontario, knew they had purchased a unique property with unlimited potential. What was not absolutely clear was that planning and site plan requirements would be complex and time consuming as is the case with any project subject to complex heritage, conservation and zoning laws.
The ultimate Master Plan called for a complete restoration of existing buildings that would respect and enhance the heritage qualities of the Circa 1850 site. New development included a large coach house and outdoor amenities suitable for large social functions. A comfortable human scale for small family oriented gatherings and the desire to be unaware of highway noise from Yonge street were key issues for the design team. Due to strict conservation regulations and the fact that only 25% percent of the site sits above the Regional Storm Line all new development was subject to hydraulic modeling.
A formal country garden greets visitors as they arrive to a grand terrace overlooking the pool and native gardens surrounded by a protected forest with towering, century old red oaks trees. An intricate waterfall and babbling brook meanders through the property providing a peaceful ambiance to the outdoors. Special features include a custom designed Asado grill derived from a familiar Argentinian tradition, gas fire pit and open air serviced pavillion designed to mimic the 19th century covered porch architecture. Perennial gardens complete the palette for an endless display of colour and fragrance year round.
